Coenobita Variabilis aka Australian Land Hermit Crab
Breeding season here in Australia usually starts around October to April, though there have been a few that have had their hcs spawn in September and on an odd occasion in Winter!
there are a few groups/ pages now that have information about spawns on zoea, mega and getting them to land, the methods used whether it is using large cylinder vases in a water bath , homemade Kriesel either using cut glass panels siliconed in or making a jug Kriesel , or fish bowls in water bath as well, or the 3d printed Kriesel created by Prisms Creations
Doesn't matter how you attempt to raise them, the important thing is to have a go, to try, or to quote Sue Brown "Give it a red-hot crack." Sue Brown has Australians oldest captive bred baby, who is 9 years old this year name "Monster" isnt that something!
we have also had a few breeders from Qld, Victoria and Tasmania, that have brought quite a significant number of babies to land and are continuing to grow this day and a couple of breeders Qld and Tasmania have found gravid females early for this season.
I think in the end that is all we can do is try! you never know you might get them to land to moult and become land babies on your first attempt! it has happened before. I sincerely hope if you do find yourself with gravid female or surprise spawn you will reach out to the pages listed, there are many supportive friendly breeders that have been where you may find yourself now and will happily support and cheer to you on
Below you will find links to pages for supplies , guides, for the curious, the willing, the shocked caretaker that has found a spawn, the inquisitive to find out more about these fascinating little creatures
